Ontario Sales and Marketing Seminar
Haven't had enough fun at ORC? Here's another chance! The Ontario Sales and Marketing Training / S.L.U.T. 2007 is going to be on November 17th. Once again, our MC VP of National Accounts, Mike Mahoney, is going to teach you advanced sales and marketing skills just like at National Sales Program! This would also be a great opportunity to initiate your LCP-elect before NC. Think of innovative ways for your initiation! The details for the event are as follow:

Date: November 17th, 2007
Time: Registration at 8:30 a.m., conference starts at 9 a.m. SHARP, ends at about 6 p.m.
Delegation Fees: Around $20 but not more than $40
Accommodation: Everyone is staying at a hotel, the downtown bar district is within walking distance

For those of you who didn't know nomadlife (http://www.nomadlife.org/) is created by an @US alumnus back in the day when @ server isn't well developed and @er desperately a weblog community. Now nomadlife is run by this company called Sliverkey which is a company founded the @ alumni, currently employing interns working in there and running all these technical things for all the other AIESECers in the world using nomadlife.

In essence, nomadlife is awesome and have all these funny and inspirational stories to read on.

Hope everyone had a fabulous summer and is back in shape! Welcome back to Western and AIESEC of course! During summer, AIESEC Western had continuous marketing activities and successfully raised internships from OES, London Hydro and Trojan Technologies! Hence, we’ll have interns coming in from foreign countries shortly! On the other hand, our LCP, Rainbow Cheung, has also came back from two exciting experiences: International Congress held in Turkey and National President Meeting that took place in Toronto.There are many more amazing experiences to share, so remember to come out during clubs week (Sept 17 – Sept 21) and have an intense month of recruitment! It’s a fresh start to a new school year, why not come out and make the most out of it? If you want AIESEC Western is have a successful year, it all starts with a good recruitment!

Ontario Regional Conference (ORC)

This year’s ORC will be held by AIESEC Windsor in Windsor from Oct 12 till Oct 14, 2007. The annual Ontario Regional Conference is mainly an introductory conference for you to get to know AIESEC and also build your network across Ontario as all 11 Local Committees will take part in this event with close to 200 delegates. More information will be provided later, but make sure you don’t miss the registration date as this is surely something you wouldn’t wish to miss!

AI is calling up your LC!

AI is calling up your LC but not ours :P It' s okay, we met Mairi when she was here at NLDC.

On the side note, I'm going to 59th International Congress in Istanbul, Turkey! I, along with 9 other LCP, NDT and MC across the country will represent Canada in IC 2007! WOOT!

IC is the first AIESEC conference and has continued the tradition every year organizing by different countries. IC is a 10 days intense conference which you will be able to meet AIESECer across the whole world!! Although IC is only available for LCP, NDT and MC, other members in the LC can also have the chance to meet AIESECer across the whole world through the parallel conference called YouCan! (http://www.youcan2007.org/).

Where IC is hosted by LC Istanbul, YouCan! is hosted by LC Bursa. All of the delegates of these 2 conferences will meet together in the opening plenary and Global Village. One of our LC memeber, Andreas Erdepresser whom orginally form AIESEC Austria will be attending YouCan! as well...

I can't wait to meet all these AIESECer across the whole and bring all these exciting news and traditions back to our LC!

Recollection of NLDC 2007, Toronto

As more than 300 AIESECers across Canada gathered together during early May, the amount of energy we've radiated as an organizaition is definitely one of a kind. 27 LCs merging together, sharing their personal stories and experiences. Personally, I've been touched and inspired by quite a few amazing individuals, their enthusiasm, passion and vision makes me want to become a better person and be able to inspire other fellow friends. As this being my third AIESEC conference and first national conference, I realize in terms of AIESEC work, it's really straightforward. What makes us different, is the people that make up this great organization. Whenever each AIESECer is in despair, I know all of them have the capability to pull it through as we're not alone; there's always a helping hand out there to reach for.

I guess that's the end to my little emotional talk =P I just wished I had the opportunity to share this great experience with all my fellow AIESECers, especially the ones from Western. We were an amazing group and I'm so proud of each and everyone of you. All the smiles on your faces show me what I've been doing is worth doing even when I hit hard times, remember how great each of you are =) changes start from within, let's ROCK our year! I love my EB, hope everyone is having a kickass summer holiday!

AIESEC International Gains Worldwide Recognition for Democracy in the Workplace

ROTTERDAM, March 6, 2007—AIESEC International has been recognized as one of 34 companies in the “Worldwide Award for the Most Democratic Workplaces” sponsored by WorldBlu, Inc., a Washington, DC-based business specializing in organizational democracy.

The announcement came as part of the first Democracy in the Workplace Day, sponsored by the WorldBlu, Inc. organization. Businesses and non-profits from the US, Canada, the Netherlands and Russia made the premiere list, representing industries such as technology, telecommunications, media, manufacturing, and retail with a combined total of nearly $3 billion in annual sales.

AIESEC International sits on the list with organizations such as Great Harvest Bread Company, GE Aviation’s Durham Engine Facility, Honest Tea, 1-800-GOT-JUNK, Equal Exchange, Linden Lab (makers of the Second Facility Life virtual reality world), Zingerman’s Community of Businesses, SRC Holdings Corporation, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, i-Free, and Threadless.

Organizations from the for-profit, non-profit, non-governmental and government sectors with five or more employees that have been in operation for a minimum of three years could apply for the WorldBlu award. Employees completed a survey evaluating their organization’s practice of ten democratic principles such as decentralization, accountability, choice and integrity on a leadership level, individual level and systems and processes level.

AIESEC International scored high on practices such as accountability & individual and collective, demonstrated by their weekly Monday morning meetings that bring together the entire office, physically or virtually, to share their priorities for the week and hold themselves accountable to the rest of the team if they are unfulfilled. Fairness and dignity was another practice AIESEC International naturally scored high on—their leadership team of 21 people is made of up 16 different nationalities from across four continents and equal in gender representation. There are also systems and budgets in place to support the diversity of applicants, which is often challenged by lengthy visa procedures and expensive travel.

WorldBlu has also declared March 6 “Democracy in the Workplace Day” to celebrate these organizations and the positive ripple effect their workplace practices are having on increasing freedom and peace in the world. Individuals are invited to use this day to examine how their workplaces can adopt and further mature their practice of democracy.

National Leadership Development Conference Info Session

Looking for something to kick off a great summer? Here's the perfect event! National Leadership Development Conference (NLDC) hely by AIESEC Ryerson will take place from May 5, 2007 to May 9, 2007. This conference is designed to create a self-driven learning environment enabling you to come together with all the delegates to be inspired, understand and relate to AIESEC’s direction, and develop the skills and networks needed to create greater success as individuals, AIESECers and for the organization as a whole.

We will be holding info sessions regarding this conference as well as a brief introduction to our organization. Here are the details!

What's next?

OQ was officially over the last Sunday in Montreal. It was a bit of a gongshow but I have to say it's been one of the most inspirational and motivational conference that I've ever been to. There were a lot of different sessions that we could learn from other LCs and other current LCPs have share their personal story on how they started their @XP. I'm so glad that I have my executive team with me during the conference and we had a great time at Montreal. Thanks to the OC for organizing such a great conference, accommodating 280 delegates in just 1 month. The energy, spirit in this conference was just amazing. It's so nice to see all these new members enjoyed this conference and finally see a fit for themselves within AIESEC. ALWAYS REMEMBER, you will get as much as you put into it. Step out of your comfort zone and be in it!
So now after OQ what's next? We still have a little bit more than a week before reading week, and before we all say goodbye, our Regional Vice President (RVP) Carolyn Rush is coming to town!! WOHOO!! She'd be here from Wednesday to Friday. If you would like to meet her and know more about AIESEC, let me know! After that, it'd be team retreat when the whole incoming EB will write up the whole business plan for the upcoming year!

Now March is another really exciting month! We have everything planned out for March so stay tune everybody!
